Kriyā Yoga
aYs is delighted that Saraswathi, long-term student of TKV Desikachar and founder of Yoga Vahini in Chennai, will join us to talk about the practice of Kriyā Yoga from chapter 2 of the Yoga Sutra, and how she has come to understand its importance in bringing yoga into every aspect of our daily lives.
Saraswathi began her yoga and healing journey in 1990, studying under TKV Desikachar for over 17 years in the tradition of T Krishnamacharya. She holds two Master’s degrees (Nutrition and Psychology) and a Post-Graduate Diploma in Yoga from Krishnamacharya Yoga Mandiram (KYM), Chennai. She has served as yoga teacher, therapist, consultant, trainer, and head of KYM’s Research department, continuing to bring scientific perspective to yoga therapy through her work with Yoga Vahini. As teacher, trainer, and therapist, she has touched thousands of lives in India and abroad, training serious yoga aspirants worldwide. Straddling tradition and modernity, she integrates yoga’s wisdom holistically for all seekers, wherever they are on their path.
In case you are unfamiliar with Saraswathi, read in the April 2026 aYs Newsletter an excerpt from an interview I did with her this February in Chennai (the full interview will appear in an upcoming aYs Journal). Saraswathi is an inspiring teacher and yoga practitioner, devoted to spreading the teachings of the yoga of Krishnamacharya and Desikachar (her long-time teacher) all around the globe. She travels far and wide, and also teaches online. If you want to learn more about her, please read about her work on the Yoga Vahini website here.
