Chanting Peace Chants for International Day of Peace – Old Schoolroom, Burton Joyce, NG14 5DZ

21 September 2024 falls on the International Day of Peace, marked at UN headquarters with the ringing of a Peace Bell. In this live workshop we’ll chant some/all of the Daśaśāntayaḥ, a collection of Śānti-pāthaḥ, which ask for a peaceful environment in which to work at the beginning of some sections of the Vedas. We have come to know them as “Peace chants” and in a troubled world they are a source of comfort for many. We’ll have pauses through the day for spoken words and quiet reflection. Some of these chants are short and well known, and though others are more challenging, the day should be accessible to chanters of all experience. The idea is to have a shared experience, with different chanters leading.
