Starting Autumn 2008 in Christchurch over 4 Saturday mornings. Suitable for students who wish to find out more about this approach where emphasis is placed on the fundamental concepts of practice design and the philosophy which underlies Yoga for personal development.

Course Outline:-
The Introductory Course is a 12 hour course designed for those who wish to deepen their study of yoga. The approach has developed from the work of T Krishnamacharya, TKV Desikachar and his student Paul Harvey. The course gives background material and a structure which is developed further within the Foundation Course.
The course outline is as follows:
1) BACKGROUND TO YOGA
Origins of yoga, time-line with main texts
2) PRACTICE DESIGN
Use of breath, and the link with movement
Movement and stillness in postures
SKLIBS
Counterpose
Sthira / sukha
3) ASANA
Asana groups ( Name, form, vinyasa, place in the practice, counterpose, breathing, modifications, contraindications, focus / bhavana )
The role of postures, intention, form and function
Simple Modifications
4) PRANAYAMA
Basics of breathing, location (and physiology)
Length, quality and rhythm
Ujjayi
5) YOGA PHILOSOPHY
Overview of main texts, especially
Yoga Sutra, Hatha Yoga Pradipika
Key concepts linking to role of yoga - Citta vritti nirodha
and to practice -Sthira sukha
6) ANATOMY AND PHYSIOLOGY
How we breathe, and the main organs and muscles, lungs, diaphragm.
How we move: function of muscles, joints and bones
7) HOME STUDY
Simple practice to take away

The Still Point and the Dance
Yoga Workshop with Claire Hincks

A day to further explore and deepen your relationship with Yoga through
posture work, breathing and meditative techniques, sound and linked

Yoga Winter Coursein Reading, Berks

A yoga course over 10 Monday or Friday evenings in the Winter term
Start dates: 28 November 2008 (for the Friday class)
or: 1 December 2008 (for the Monday class)

A regular yoga practice is the best way to achieve results with yoga. This inevitably leads the student to the topic of developing a regular home practice.
The overall AIM of the YOGA WINTER COURSE, therefore, is to prepare the student for a safe and beneficial personal yoga practice, i.e. yoga activity 'in between classes'.

Starting 10th January 2009 -- 10 Saturdays 9.30am to 5pm
In Tadley (Hants/Berks border)
A course structured around practice and theory, including: Asana, Pranayama, Mantra and classical texts. Ideal for students with at least 2 years' experience, to develop and deepen their personal practice of Yoga and potentialy prepare for Teacher Training. Led by a BWY DCT, aYs and Khyf Teacher. Repeat of highly appreciated courses held in 2005 and 2006.
